| Allen Young |
Encaustic Painting:
Encaustic literally means “to burn in.” It involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments and resins are added. This mixture is then applied to a surface, in Allen’s case it is usually wood. The technique was first used over two millennia ago by the Romans on their sculpture and the Egyptians for wax portraits. Young has taken this ancient medium and placed it in the contemporary realm.
Young has been creating and showing his work since the 1970s. Some of Young’s commissions include several pieces for CNM in Albuquerque and the U.S. Embassy in New Guinea commissioned by the U. S. Department of State. In 2007 he had pieces accepted in two Albuquerque Museum shows. |
